The tale of Pramod Sawant"s downfall

The tale of Pramod Sawant's downfall

The poll ready streets of Goa are all set to write a new chapter in the history of this small and beautiful state. A 10 year long stint of BJP has sent the state into a huge wave of anti incumbency. The horse trading practices of last elections has further tarnished the image of BJP in the state. Secondly, after the demise of Manohar Parrikar, BJP has not been able to find any prominent face who can provide strong and stable leadership. Current CM Pramod Sawant is under multiple blames like illegal mining and illegal earning. His home constituency has state's largest mining hub which was shut to leave thousands suffering under BJP's tenure. This led to unemployment of many. Those who bought trucks to be used in mining purpose are not able to pay the installments. Not only the mine workers but also the transporters, vehicle owners, drivers and owners of restaurants nearby are in distress. This has created a huge dissatisfaction in the larger section of public. In addition to this, Pramod Sawant lacks personal political strength. So, even if BJP manages to make government, which is highly unlikely, they won't bet on Pramod Sawant as CM.

On top of this he is being challenged by a political heavyweight candidate from Congress party. Dharmesh Saglani is a well known public figure who lost last elections by a small margin of 2000 votes only. In this elections, he is the first choice of voters. He has served the area as Chairman of Municipal corporation and corporator since last 10 years.

Even during pandemic, he has relentlessly worked for general public and managed to make an impact. Congress party has rallied all there star campaigners on this seat. Even Rahul Gandhi did a campaign here. If internal sources are to be believed, home minister Amit Shah is not on the same page with Pramod Sawant. The campaign was seemingly dull and it's clearly evident that BJP's top leadership is trying to sideline Pramod Sawant.

A common understanding has developed among the voters of the constituency that despite being a chief Minister Pramod Sawant couldn't do the basic required things for the area. The anti incumbency, personal tarnished image of Pramod Sawant and the clean and impeccable image of the congress candidate has made these elections really interesting.
